About EMU

EMU is the common portal for the educational world in Denmark. EMU is short for "Educational Meeting Universe". EMU gathers all relevant educational material, services and resources available on the Internet. EMU is focused on content in the Danish language and on the needs of pupils, students and teachers in Denmark. The portal is a unique constellation of virtual universes targeted at specific user groups. So far there are universes for teachers and pupils of the primary school sector, upper secondary schools, institutions for vocational training, and the teacher training colleges.

EMU is initiated by The Danish Ministry of Education and UNI-C.

Overview of the EMU site

Education covers a vast field, so EMU has different entries, or universes, for different user groups. In each universe you will find links, educational sequences, best practice for the individual subjects. The universes also contains calendars with presentation of events all over Denmark and links to the organisers, access to dictionaries, encyclopedia, maps and statistics, practical information with student guidance, scholarships, school camps and much more.

Furthermore the EMU embraces several other independent services, e.g. SkoleKom, a nation-wide mail- and conference service, Fagenes Infoguide, a database with more than 10.000 Internet links for educational purposes, SkoDa, a payment-service with acess to e.g. Britannica Online (encyclopedia), articles from the biggest Danish newspapers and the Vejviser - addresses of schools, teachers and pupils.

The history of EMU

UNI-C has been an Internet provider ever since the start of the Internet in Denmark.

UNI-C has been entrusted with the task of the development of the Sektornet, which provides Internet connectivity and a range of value added network services for the educational sector in Denmark.

In order to provide overview and visibility for these services, the idea of the EMU portal emerged in late 1997. The first version of EMU was put in operation in 1999.

The team behind EMU

UNI-C is in charge of the project management, the implementation of the technical parts of EMU, and the coordination of the practical work with a site of this magnitude. Furthermore UNI-C cooperate with a multitude of external editors from various educational institutions and a wide range of external collaborators.
