Climate change PDW in Roskilde - Resume
In March 2009 Denmark organized an eTwinning Professional Development Workshop (PDW) for European educators on climate change, sustainablity and education related to environmental issues.
Climate eTwinning PDW
The target group was educators mainly from secondary education level (teaching students from around age 13 and up). The scope was both basic education, from these age levels, and upper secondary general as well as vocational education schools.
The approach for the PDW was on one side science education with lots of examples of practical classroom activities and experiments and on the other side humanistic, social science subjects and cross curricular.
The workshops in the programme was presented in relation to climate education related to the upcoming COP 15 - United Nations Conference on Climate Change which is being held in Copenhagen, December 2009.
The Venue was Hotel Comwell in Roskilde, a city about 40 km West of Copenhagen with a nice view to Roskilde Fjord.

2: “CO2nnect” (Dorthe Christensen, University of Copenhagen, Faculty of Life Sciences)
The United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) states in its reports that the planet earth is getting warmer because of human activity. Pupils need wide competencies to meet the challenges of sustainable development - including climate change. The CO2nnect activities are designed to support learning that can provide pupils with abilities, skills, attitudes and awareness as well as knowledge and understanding of the issues. The activities can easily be adapted to a range of age groups and linked to the curricula of many subjects. http://www.co2nnect.org/

3: “Healthy Food for a sick Planet” (Christian Ege, The Ecological Council)
What we eat has an impact on the climate, but it is difficult to change habits. Flakkebjerg Efterskole tog udfordringen op og lagde kosten om. Flakkebjerg Efterskole took up the challenge and put on the diet. The result can be seen in a new educational DVD with by the Environment Council. http://www.ecocouncil.dk/english/
