Ostensibly put in place to monitor students’ use of websites and to tackle cyber bullying, e-safety software is now being used to monitor teachers’ use of the internet, say teaching unions. Chris Keates, leader of NASUWT, says the monitoring of teachers’ computer use is symptomatic of ‘a growing culture of surveillance’. She adds, ‘Teachers have more restrictions than their pupils these days’. The NUT is also concerned about the rise of this type of monitoring and plans to send guidance to its members.
