English abstract
Danish Science Gymnasiums (Danske Science Gymnasier = DASG) is a network consisting of general upper secondary and technical educational establishments dedicated to promoting and enhancing new educational approaches to maths and science.
Partnership in the network requires that schools have the explicit goal to contribute to professional and didactic development within maths and sciences and are willing to allocate teaching resources accordingly. Individual schools must be involved in at least one of the current projects within the network at any given time.
Mission:
- To develop new teaching and learning systems and new teaching resources based on curriculum research and recent pedagogical thinking
- To support and promote in-service training activities, including seminars and conferences
- To provide the framework for cooperation between upper secondary schools, universities, and trade and industry
- To highlight best practice maths and science teaching
Vision:
- To enhance interest in maths and science
- To focus on maths and science as important aspects of general education
- To motivate young people to participate in technical and scientific education
The network deals with individual projects aiming at developing teaching resources for model courses within each project. The work is organised according to a number of general principles:
- Curriculum as well as scientific expertise must be involved in each project during planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Project descriptions must be sufficiently open to ensure a feeling of ownership in those who eventually carry out the project
- Implementation of projects must be closely linked with in-service training activities for teachers involved
- Knowledge sharing and dissemination of results should mainly be effected through developing new teaching resources and supplying in-service training courses
- The subjects involved are maths and natural sciences, i.e. biology, physics, chemistry, and natural geography
The steering committee has defined four focus areas:
- Applied IT in maths and science
- Modern technology – in cooperation with trade and industry and universities
- Science for all
- Learning strategies in maths and science
